43 research centers from 31 universities gathered at the Coex mall for the four days exhibition to display excellent research findings. Many young future leaders in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) enthusiastically participated to help lead ICT innovation in Korea. Among the attendees was the Hanyang University 5G∙Unmanned Vehicle Research Center (click to visit the website), who provided demonstrations of automatic driving and VR utilized contents at the ITRC Forum 2019, from April 24th to 27th, 2019.

The 5G∙Unmanned Vehicle Research Center
Hanyang University 5G∙Unmanned Vehicle Research Center was established in June of 2017 with the support of the Institute of Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation under the Ministry of Science and ICT. Professor Kim Sun-woo (Department of Electronic Engineering) is the director of the 5G∙Unmanned Vehicle Research Center, with 10 blue-chip professors excellent in their fields of research and 11 participating companies including Essys, SKT, and Renault Samsung Motors constituting the center. The 5G∙Unmanned Vehicle Research Center aims to develop the world’s best core original technology in the field of 5G communications technology, automatic driving technology, and next generation convergence services.
Exhibition at the ITRC Forum 2019
This year was the 19th anniversary of the ITRC Forum and was the second time Hanyang University 5G∙Unmanned Vehicle Research Center participated in the exhibition. During their first participation in 2018, the center was chosen as a special exhibition center and received much attention and praise by displaying the flight of a swarm of drones, automatic driving, object recognition, and VR content.

The research content is divided into five detailed sections, and six of their research findings were exhibited at the ITRC Forum 2019 in the name of the 5G∙Unmanned Vehicle Research Center. The first part of the exhibition was called “Cooperative Localization," which introduced the cooperative positioning system of unmanned mobile vehicle models and showed an automatic driving video. The second exhibition was a trial performance of tracking drones in real time with vision recognition based algorithms using cameras. The third on the exhibition list was titled “CHEMVRLIBRARY” and consisted of virtual reality chemistry experiments for university education. The fourth part was the cinematic VR <Confession> which utilized eye contact between an actor and the audience to create a cinematic VR. The fifth was a video demonstration of object recognition, and the last on the exhibition list was the Hybrid V2X terminal.
Eom Jae-won (Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Master’s program) is giving an insight into the vehicle recognition algorithm of the flight of the swarm of drones (군집비행).
In addition, their participation in the ITRC Forum 2019 is expected to help the researchers at the center reflect current research process and introduce diverse perspectives and methods of research. This will act as a foothold to grow the researchers at the center into the much needed professionals of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The ITRC Forum 2019 was a valuable time to exchange information about research and technology trends with each and every ITRC center. It was also a great opportunity to introduce the research findings of the Hanyang University center to others. Most of all, the participation at the ITRC Forum was an invaluable chance to inspect the research processes ongoing at the center and promote growth of the participating researchers through exchange and cooperation, according to Kim.
